(hee hee! That always makes me think of Trannies...)
I think I am he last to get my invite (Thanks Sherrie!) so now I am thoroughly immersed into the great time-suck that is Ravelry. Oh I love it!!! The ideas I've found. So much time... so little knitting. way to freakin' much yarn.
I had nice time at the N.GA State Fair with AmyN, Katey and Laurie yesterday. The craft competitions were really disappointing - not so much b/c of the entries, but b/c of which entries won the prizes. I'm all for Katey's idea of bombarding them with items for the needlework categories next year to force the judges to see what prizeworthy knitting & chrocheting really should look like. The quilts at least were judged o.k., but most were where you couldn't see them or if you could see them, they weren't the winners. Oh and that lady who was so sure that knitting was originally a Scandinavian art... hah! read a freakin' book lady. Kniting samples have been found in ancient Egyptian tombs. And that one really can't do lace on circular needles and that there's just no way to get those small lace needles in Atlanta??? How about shopping somewhere other than Walmart and Hobby Lobby? sheeesh. When we suggested visiting a yarn shop, she claimed that she "work[s] all day" and doesn't have time for that. Oh. Kaaaay... There's this wonderful invention called the "weekend." Look it up.
After the fair, Katey, AmyN and I made our way to Red Hen and scored some fabric again. I got some cool asian goldfish fabric and some swirly-gig fabric to make skirts once I have a little waistline back. (I don't mean have a little waistline back b/c I sure didn't have a little one to begin with... I mean a little of my waistline back. I'll take what I can get.)
I considered making a pull on elastic skirt in the same fabric that BFF Jill's dress (finally finished all the inside seaming so it's done Done DONE!) is in but that might just be a little too mother/daughter... As if the 80's weren't traumatic enough.
What do you call a lawyer with a 64 IQ?
Your Honor.
So, Katey calls me the other day and tells me that Cast On Cottage has items on the porch at 50% off. A good bit of which is Noro. mmmmm..... Noro. So, off to COC I go - with the boys (a mistake, but at least they didn't cost me anything). I then proceeded to purchase all 17 balls of Shinano (I'm a bad, bad girl.) The boys approved of the colors provided I make them sweaters.
COC's staff seemed better than it was on my last visit. Apparently the change of ownership is doing some good. Wish they still had the toy basket, though. The tall blond was nice enough to give them some paper and pens to keep the boys busy. Learned something interesting - Betsy still owns the building.
Tried to go to the knitting guild last Thursday. Laurie came along and the directionally pathetic me got us lost. So, not only am I pattern slave, I am a written directions slave. Good think I know the way to the hospital by heart. (It is right by the Varsity.) Lately the price on the GPS I want has come down a good bit. I'm hoping for another price drop as we get closer to the holidays. Maybe I'll get lucky.
I enjoyed the trip to Little Quilts. I was a bad bad girl there, too. Katey talked me into a a quilt kit. Katey comes by the title of Fiber Enabler honestly. I was better behaved at Red Hen, but it was difficult. The husband doesn't know about the quilt kit. It hasn't made it into the house yet. I'm thinking tomorrow might be a good day to bring it inside and start cutting. I have to do BFF Jill's party dress though. I should start that before I start cutting for the quilt.
